LEAD ENDOSCOPY NURSE (JAG & QUALITY LEAD) 12 MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACT

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Endoscopy Nurse to join our service as a Band 7 Lead Endoscopy Nurse (JAG & Quality Lead) on a 12-month fixed-term basis.

This 25-hour per week role combines senior clinical practice (one endoscopy session per week) with dedicated time to lead Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation, governance, audit and quality improvement activity within the Endoscopy Service.

The post holder will provide visible clinical and professional nursing leadership, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred care while ensuring the service achieves and maintains full JAG accreditation. Working in partnership with the Clinical Lead and Operations Manager, the postholder will strengthen governance systems, embed sustainable quality processes and support continuous service improvement.

This role does not hold overall operational management responsibility for the service but plays a key leadership role in accreditation, compliance and quality assurance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead preparation for JAG accreditation and annual review, including evidence collation, gap analysis, action planning and coordination of inspection activity. They will develop and monitor a JAG action plan, ensuring robust governance oversight through the Endoscopy User Group and embedding sustainable audit and compliance systems.

The role provides professional nursing leadership within the Endoscopy Service, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality and person-centred care. The post holder will undertake one clinical endoscopy session per week to maintain competence and provide senior clinical support within the unit.

Responsibilities include strengthening audit processes (including comfort scores and KPIs), reviewing and updating policies and SOPs in line with JAG and national standards, escalating risks appropriately, and contributing to incident reporting and shared learning.

The post holder will promote infection prevention standards, support workforce development and reflective practice, and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience, quality and operational performance.

Provide professional oversight of endoscopy decontamination processes, ensuring compliance with national decontamination standards, JAG requirements and local policies. Work collaboratively with decontamination leads and external providers (as applicable) to ensure safe, effective and fully traceable endoscope reprocessing systems.
