Overview
Labor & Delivery Scrub Tech position. Part-time, Day Shift. Works as a member of the Labor & Delivery team providing perioperative, clinical, environmental, and transportation support under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities- Functions as scrub tech in cesarean section deliveries and supports OR standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain asepsis, sterile technique, and assist with patient care activities under RN direction.
- Assist in setting up the OR with supplies and instruments; anticipate future supply and instrument needs; transport and position patients during obstetrical care from admission to discharge.
- Assist with preparation for sterilization, transport of instruments to CSPD, and maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Assist with collection and transport of laboratory specimens and perform waived testing quality controls as appropriate.
- Support L&D team during normal vaginal delivery and fetal demise; provide basic patient care activities under RN direction.
- Perform environmental maintenance duties to facilitate patient care and room turnover; act as relief HUC when assigned and manage communications and basic Cerner/HUGs functions.
- Respond to patient emergencies and participate in unit handoffs, culture of safety, and ongoing unit projects and metrics.
- Engage in orientation and education of staff, students, and entry-level L&D Scrub Techs; serve as a liaison to ancillary departments.
- Education:
Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist program or equivalent work experience. - Licensure/Certification:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. AST Certification recommended. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years as Operating Room or Labor & Delivery Scrub Tech; minimum of 6 months as direct caregiver performing nursing assistant/medical assistant activities. - Skills:
Excellent customer service, strong aseptic technique knowledge, ability to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk up to 100% of work time, and ability to prioritize tasks amidst interruptions.
- Weekly shifts may include weekends and holidays; position may require different shifts to meet staffing needs.
- Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous waste, and chemicals; compliance with safety procedures minimizes exposure.
- Working in a surgical environment with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous substances.
