Job Summary

As a Phlebotomist 2, you will operate automated plasmapheresis machines, manage donor safety, maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, mentor junior staff, and support quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure overall operation compliance with FDA SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and a positive donor experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area.
  • Verify donor identity and confidentiality per SOPs.
  • Set up equipment and supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedures.
  • Label units and samples accurately.
  • Execute venipunctures and plasma collection with highest quality and safety standards.
  • Operate plasmapheresis machines, respond to alarms and alerts, and manage donor adverse events.
  • Monitor donor conditions to ensure comfort and product quality.
  • Manage biohazard waste disposal and clean spills between donors.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of machines.
  • Document logs, records, and any incidents accurately.
  • Report unsafe conditions to management.
  • Stock and replenish inventory on plasma carts.
  • Mentor Phlebotomist I, ensuring training efficiency and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot machine alarms, perform routine and periodic quality control checks.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance on donor floor performance and continuous improvement.
  • Execute First In-First Out tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other job‑related tasks as required.
Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or GED required.
  • State‑specific certification or licensing as required.
  • Minimum three months experience in a medical or health‑care environment or equivalent education/experience.
  • Completed documentation of training before independent duties.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocols.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Accurate and complete documentation ability.
  • Read and interpret safety regulations and procedure manuals.
  • Effective in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated consistency, reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.
  • Availability for daytime, evening, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.
  • Venipuncture skill required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Collaboration and adaptability skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to thirty‑five pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.
  • Use of required PPE.
  • Occupational exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
  • Work within a visual range of a display terminal within eighteen inches.
  • Repeat precise small‑motor tasks (e.g., drawing blood).
  • Use of assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
  • Operate in temperatures up to
    -40°C as per SOPs.
