JOB SUMMARY:
The Hospital Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) provides evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to patients across inpatient units and outpatient clinics. This role collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members to develop individualized nutrition care plans that support recovery, manage chronic conditions, and promote optimal health outcomes.
DUTIES Clinical Nutrition Care- Perform comprehensive nutrition assessments, including anthropometrics, lab values, medical history, and dietary intake.
- Develop individualized nutrition care plans based on patient diagnosis, clinical condition, cultural needs, and treatment goals.
- Provide medical nutrition therapy for complex conditions (e.g., diabetes, renal disease, gastrointestinal disorders, oncology, cardiac conditions, malnutrition, critical care).
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting nutrition interventions as needed.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR) according to hospital standards.
- Participate in patient care rounds and communicate nutrition recommendations to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and care coordinators.
- Provide nutrition input for discharge planning and patient transitions of care.
- Serve as a nutrition resource for staff regarding enteral and parenteral nutrition, specialized diets, and evidence-based nutrition protocols.
- Deliver individualized counseling to patients and families on dietary modifications and nutrition-related behavior change.
- Provide educational materials and ensure understanding of diet orders, restrictions, and long-term nutrition plans.
- Work with the Food & Nutrition Services department to ensure menu accuracy, diet order compliance, and safe food service practices.
- Assist in developing or revising diet guidelines, clinical nutrition protocols, and therapeutic menus.
- Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives, audits, and multidisciplinary committees.
- Stay current with best practices in clinical nutrition and maintain continuing education as required for credentialing.
- Precept dietetic interns and contribute to staff training.
Reports to COO or CCO.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field (per ACEND requirements).
- Completion of an accredited dietetic internship or supervised practice program.
- Current Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- State licensure (if applicable).
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical nutrition standards, and hospital EMR systems.
- Strong assessment and critical-thinking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Cultural competence and compassionate patient-centered care.
- Organization, multitasking, and time-management skills.
- BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
- CPI certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
