Position: Environmental Svcs Tech I-FT-Trinity Health Oakland

Overview

Accountability Objectives: Provide a safe, clean and sanitary environment for patients, visitors and staff. Performs a variety of departmental functions and tasks primarily focused on repetitive cleaning and sanitation following established department and hospital policies; using safe work practices and following state and federal regulatory compliance guidelines. Coordinates with department Leadership and Logistics Center to meet the environmental services needs of the organization.

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification And Experience Required

Education:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Ability to read and write required.

C Special Skill / Aptitudes:
Excellent customer service orientation; ability to bend and stoop, push heavy objects up to 35 lbs; ability to learn and perform various job-related tasks; ability to work in a health care environment with sensitivity to patient, visitor and staff dignity; ability to make decisions for safety; ability to work collaboratively in a team; ability to modify work plans to ensure completion of assignments to support patient care.
Experience:

Previous experience performing housekeeping activities in a clinical environment preferred.

III. Duties / Responsibilities

Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting procedures for discharge, office, clinical, patient and other hospital areas utilizing prescribed techniques, equipment and cleaning chemicals.

Work continuously at a vigorous pace; have the physical ability to dismantle beds, isolettes and cribs; demonstrate high quality and productive task performance.

Maintain overall cleanliness of trash storage rooms, staging areas for trash and compactor areas in internal and external areas of the hospital.

Return all housekeeping materials to appropriate storeroom, janitor's closet or storage areas. At the end of each shift, return dirty mops, rags and equipment to assigned area.

Clean and disinfect I.V. poles and portable commodes.

Demonstrate proper handling and utilization of all cleaning chemicals including proper dilutions.

Patient rooms: strip and make beds; restroom cleaning; isolation room cleaning including refreshing curtains; dusting and damp mopping of hard surface floors and baseboards; vacuuming carpet; high dusting and cleaning of walls, vents, pictures, clocks, furnishings; empty and relining waste and linen containers; discharge cleaning; occupied patient room cleaning; spot cleaning of walls, doors and windows; utilize Xenex and other equipment.

Common hospital areas: restroom cleaning; dust and damp mop floors and baseboards; vacuum carpet; high dusting and cleaning of walls, vents, pictures, clocks, furnishings; empty and relining waste and linen containers; spot cleaning of walls, doors and windows; clean stairwells and public areas as requested.

Other duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities

Reports for work on time, appropriately dressed in uniform (including Hospital issued technology) and ready to work in assigned area. Uses SJMO issued technology for access to systems (email, bed tracking, etc.). All breaks must be taken at assigned times in authorized areas unless prior approval is given. Remains in assigned work area unless assigned elsewhere; must notify supervisor to request permission to leave.
