Southern Motion is looking for a leather cutting operator to cut leather in accordance to required production and quality standards.
Equipment UsedScissors, Cutting knife, Label gun, Fabric Drill, Stapler, Hammer & Punch
Education- Basic reading and writing skills required.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate the English language.
- Must be able to correctly identify colors.
- Must learn to read and understand daily production schedule in order to accurately produce daily requirements.
- Learn cover numbers to identify different covers and colors for respective styles to be cut.
- Leather cutter must first place each hide onto table and inspect.
- Identify all flaws and blemishes and mark defects with white chalk.
- Prepare to begin cutting by placing plexiglass pattern on hide.
- Don metal protective glove. Always, with no exception, wear metal protective glove on not-cutting hand.
- Ensure that a good blade is in hand knife.
- Cut around the plexiglass patterns as accurately and efficiently as possible to maximize yield.
- Ensure good notches are cut in pattern for assisting sewing operators when joining cut parts together.
- Stack cut parts on table and rack behind cutter.
- Cutter must make ties for bundling out of scrap fabric.
- Bundle all cut parts and prepare for sewing distribution.
- Parts should be bundled and labeled by style, shade, and quantity.
- Use label gun to identify all parts.
- Place identification label on card/tag.
- Attach ticket with the work order number on the bundle.
- Place the bundled cut parts in the rack for the sewing department.
- Put scrap and defective parts in centralized bin for recycling.
Return good unused hide to storage for future use. - Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Self-monitor production throughout the day to maintain required level of production.
- Personal protection equipment (PPE) should be worn at all times within the department as well as throughout the plant where designated. Safety is enforced each day to prevent any accidents.

- Immediately report any work related injury or illness.
- Keep the work area neat and free of hazards. [The use of compressed air without proper safety nozzle is prohibited for clean-up.]
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Always ensure proper lifting techniques: avoid bending and twisting at the waist whenever possible.
- Inspect tools and protective equipment before use.
- Learn the hazards of the equipment and procedures used on the job.
- Report any defective, malfunctioning, or suspicious tool, machine, or protective equipment immediately.
- Participate in safety training and safety meetings.
- Report any hazards or risks related to policies or procedures.
