The opportunity:Our client, a specialist vehicle conversion manufacturer, is looking for a hands‑on Quality Manager to take ownership of product quality at their Pontypool site. This is an urgent requirement.
The Role:- Lead and manage a small quality team including a Quality Engineer, technicians and inspectors
- Hands‑on role - you'll be leading the team but also doing QE work yourself
- Own non‑conformance and root cause processes, driving permanent corrective actions
- Authority to stop release of finished product if standards aren't met
- Work closely with production, NPI and R&D to ensure quality is built in before handover to manufacturing
- Liaise with your counterpart at the group's second site on a fortnightly basis, with occasional travel
- Report into the Senior Quality Manager overseeing quality across both sites
- Manage quality KPIs including scrap, rework and out‑of‑sequence product
- Lead quality audits, FMEA, PPAP and control plan management
- Support new product introduction and pre‑production trials, including work on premium OEM prototype programmes
- Strong hands‑on Quality Engineering background, ideally with some team leadership, OR an established Quality Manager
- Solid knowledge of ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP and FMEA
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing experience
- Comfortable reading engineering drawings and understanding manufacturing processes
- Strong root cause and problem‑solving skills (8D, 5W2H, PDCA)
- Automotive or vehicle manufacturing background preferred
- Full clean UK driving licence
- Able to work independently in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
