The Revalidation Support Unit is a professional unit within Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) that aims to support and improve professional standards across Wales.
We are looking to appointamotivated and enthusiastic GP to join the team as part-time GP Appraisal Coordinator for the North-west Wales and Powys region.
We are seekingacandidatewho candemonstratethrough a competitive recruitment process, the potential to successfully deliver all aspects of this post. They must be able to work flexibly and work effectively as part of a team of Appraisal Coordinators across Wales.
If you have a keen interest in the GP Appraisal process in Wales and experience of appraising / supporting others, this role will allow you to become engaged in leading the appraisal process and further develop your own skills andexpertisein the area.
The GP Appraisal Coordinator will lead a team of Appraisers and co-ordinate all GP appraisal activity in their region(s). This includes contributing to the recruitment,training and management of Appraisers, and addressing their ongoing learning and development needs.
The post holder will also be expected to attend and contribute to a range of appraisal meetings to discuss and potentially resolve, local and national issues. The post holder will be expected to drive and enhance the appraisal process in Wales by undertaking other key responsibilities, such as, contributing to quality assurance activities and working closely with a variety of stakeholders toprovideappraisal guidance and support.

.If successful at interview, you will be expected to undertake an extensive comprehensive induction led by the incumbent Appraisal Coordinators prior to the start date. The rolewillcommenceonthe9thApril 2026. Further information will be provided at the interview.

- Knowledge of NHS systems and structures
- Knowledge of leading and managing a team
- Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of RSU and stakeholders in managing the appraisal and revalidation process
- Knowledge of educational theory and practice which are relevant for appraisal
- Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education or equivalent experience
- Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with examples of the application of best practice in relation to medical education and quality
- Significant experience of undertaking GP appraisal in Wales in order to demonstrate good understanding of and commitment to the principles of appraisal
- Experience of appraising others with proven ability to facilitate a supportive and challenging discussion
- Time management skills, in particular, the ability to prioritise commitments in order to meet deadlines and attend appraisal meetings and conferences
- Excellent IT skills, proficient in using MS office and communication platforms
