The Role
The Climate Adaptation and Resilience Lead provides expert technical leadership to identify, assess, and manage climate risks, coordinating organisation-wide adaptation activities and advising at both strategic and operational levels to ensure Transport for Wales (TfW) effectively responds to the impacts of a changing climate.
Role Responsibilities- Undertake Climate Change Risk Assessments on the transport network – at our offices or depots and on other projects by working collaboratively with internal teams to reduce the impact of climate change to our network and operations.
- Advise project teams and external consultants to assess climate risk by using TfW's Climate Change Risk Assessment Framework to ensure climate resilience is factored into project designs and plans.
- Advise the Infrastructure Manager and Engineering teams on developing innovative, climate change adaptation solutions by providing technical expertise on assessing climate risk, researching and disseminating current climate adaptation advice and best practice to ensure TfW can deliver on our Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan objectives.
- Update the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan at agreed intervals and provide an annual progress update on delivery of actions set out within the plan to ensure the organisation and stakeholders have access to the latest data.
- Degree in a relevant subject, such as environmental science, engineering or geography and/or have significant working experience in a technical area such as climate science or geotechnical engineering.
- Demonstrable experience of undertaking climate change risk assessments and utilising climate projections data and site‑based information to assess climate risk.
- Experience of developing and delivering climate change adaptation projects.
- Demonstrable knowledge of climate change adaptation, resilience, and associated policy and regulatory frameworks, with the ability to apply this in a practical, operational context.
- Experience of preparing technical reports on climate risk and adaptation.
