Role Overview And Responsibilities IntroductionWe are looking for a Planner to join our busy planning team based at our site in Abercynon South Wales.
Reporting to the Planning Manager, the purpose of the Production Planner is to create and manage production schedules, balancing the customer demand with available resources (materials, labour, and equipment) to ensure efficient, on‑time product delivery while controlling cost.
Tasks include demand planning by using data from MPS to produce the production plan in Excel, operating within our MPS/MRP environment and cross‑collaboration both internally and externally.
You will also collaborate directly with our customers, ensuring they have maximum visibility of the current and forward plan. The core goal is to ensure the right products are made at the right time and at best cost while always ensuring high quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Scheduling- Develop detailed production schedules while understanding and responding to both firm and planned orders.
- Release manufacturing orders to “Clear to Build Release” protocols.
- Coordinate and prioritise the flow of work to optimise factory output and minimise downtime.
- Focus planning skills on meeting the Master Production Schedule as number one priority.
- Support New Product Introduction process.
- Proactively manage the flow of firm and planned work orders.
- Resolve backlogs.
- Work with key departments and customer to align schedules, resolve issues, and report deviations.
- Ensure all action / exception messages are reviewed and actioned in a timely manner.
- Ensure system and Excel plans are aligned.
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities to reduce cost and improve productivity.
- Maintain scrap and yield factors correctly.
- You will be expected to support our drive for continuous improvements.
- Track and report performance using various leading and lagging indicators.
- Route cause and report issues.
- Work cross‑functionally to produce a robust improvement plan.
- You will be expected to report into and participate in our SPQDCE process.
- Support various meetings on behalf of Planning / Supply Chain.
- Support the company’s SIOP process.
- Collaborate closely with our customer to ensure plan alignment.
- Support our sister company to ensure their shipping plans meet our customer requirements.
- Ensure the total plan from two production facilities meet customer orders and expectations.
- Monitor stock levels of raw materials and finished goods to ensure they are available in a timely fashion to meet the production schedule.
- Prepare reports and action any deviation.
- Monitor stock levels for emergence of slow moving and obsolete and recommend actions.
- Maintain safety factors, as appropriate based on statistical formulae.
- Ensure all appropriate system item master data is up to date and valid.
- Participate in regular system audits.
- Ability to analyse data, forecast demand and solve complex problems.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP/MPS systems and scheduling processes.
- Proficient in Excel and other planning tools.
- Good knowledge of supply chain, planning, planning software and material management principles.
- Background in manufacturing, high‑mix low‑volume environments preferred.
