Position: Post 18 Transition and Progression Coach

This makes our College a unique, vibrant and rewarding place to work. You will be employed through Southern Educational Professional Services Ltd; a subsidiary of the College. The Post 18 Transition and Progression Coach Role:
As our Post 18 Transition and Progression Coach, you will provide targeted, specialist support to students aged 1719 who are approaching the transition into adulthood, independent living, and post-18 responsibilities. The role focuses on the period from Year 12 summer term, through Year 13 and into Year 14 progression pathways, with the clear aim of reducing the risk of young people becoming NEET during or after this transition.

You will hold a focused caseload of students navigating this transition and will work closely with social workers, carers, Virtual School, Personal Advisers, and key college staff to ensure a smooth progression into and through Year 13. You will monitor academic progress, engagement and wellbeing, and work with Careers, Advice and Guidance teams to plan clear next steps into further education, apprenticeships, employment or higher education.

You will act as an advocate for students, identifying and supporting resilience to barriers to participation such as housing changes, financial pressures, travel challenges, and the instability associated with moving into independence. The role includes providing targeted life-skills workshops and offering a consistent, trusted presence within college, ensuring that education remains a stable, protective factor while learners experience significant change.

Through practical guidance, emotional support, and structured progression planning, you will help each students sustain their course and achieve their full potential. Responsibilities as our Post 18 Transition and Progression Coach will include:
Direct Student Support Begin working with identified students from the summer term of Year 12 to plan for transition into Year 13 and adulthood. Provide consistent 1:1 mentoring through Year 13, with clear targets around engagement, routine, attendance, and personal development. Support students to manage the challenges of transitioning to independence, including: accommodation and housing changes, financial pressures and budgeting, travel and logistics, personal relationships and conflict, increased vulnerability and adult responsibilities.

Provide early intervention when engagement begins to decline and respond quickly to signs of crisis. Transition & Progression Planning Work with students to develop continuation plans for Year 13 and personalised progression plans for Year 14 and adulthood. Support students to make informed decisions about continuation, changing course, apprenticeships, employment, further study, or higher education. Monitor attendance, engagement, wellbeing, and progress, acting swiftly on concerns.

Multi-Agency Collaboration Liaise closely with Personal Advisers, social care teams, external agencies, and other professionals involved in post-18 transition. Work collaboratively with the Virtual School, ensuring that interventions align with individual plans and pathways.
