What to expect

Train to be a French teacher with an Ofsted‑approved outstanding provider. Become qualified to share your love for the French language and help to improve the lives of children and young adults every day.

Our course has been designed to bring out the best of your teaching talents quickly, efficiently, and comprehensively, with support from subject specialists and dedicated mentors throughout.

Our Modern Foreign Languages department is dedicated to continuous improvement, fostering a culture of driven, passionate, and innovative staff. Teachers actively participate in continuous professional development and integrate research into their teaching practices.

Our goal is to prepare tomorrow’s teachers and education leaders.

Aside from learning fundamental skills like lesson planning and building learning objectives, you will also have the opportunity to develop yourself interpersonally, with on‑the‑job learning that builds classroom confidence from day one.

You will be in the classroom from the very beginning, working with a reduced timetable to ensure practical and valuable experience that makes your training worthwhile. You’ll be welcomed as a valuable member of the teaching team and empowered to lead your own classes from the start.

We have 3 schools in and around Bournemouth & Poole, including Avonbourne Boys’ & Girls’ Academies, Glenmoor & Winton Academies, and The Cornerstone Academy. However, if you’re leaving Bournemouth & Poole after graduating, we still have 100 schools nationwide, so you can train to teach in a location that suits you. And if you want even more experience, there is also an option to join your school before September and work as a Teaching Assistant.

Please note that some of our salaried courses are run through the government’s apprenticeship scheme. This will not differ from our regular salaried route in terms of course content; it simply enables our schools to access funding for your training.

Your trainee year will start with a 10‑day summer institute (29 June - 8 July 2026) based at one of our regional training centres, with some remote delivery too. You’ll attend interactive sessions led by teaching experts to help you feel prepared for entering the classroom in September. It’s also a great opportunity to meet your fellow trainees for the first time!

Sustainability

Position

United Learning is committed to becoming net carbon zero by 2030. We have always been an organisation with a clear social mission, and this is an area in which we can lead the way. We are educating the next generation for their future lives, and we are all conscious that those lives will be profoundly shaped by decisions this generation makes affecting our climate and environment.

There is no more important challenge facing the world today than climate change and it is therefore our duty and moral imperative to shift the way our organisation operates to more sustainable practices.
