About the Role

GSL Education are proud to be working in partnership with a highly respected and expanding SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Alternative Provision in Poole, supporting the recruitment of a dedicated Learning Mentor.

This is a unique opportunity to join a setting that is transforming the lives of young people aged 5 to 16, providing tailored education pathways for students who have been referred by the Local Education Authority due to a range of social, emotional, behavioural and additional needs.

The provision is built on a strong ethos of flexibility, creativity, and individualized learning. Every student receives a bespoke timetable designed around their needs, interests, and long-term outcomes, with a strong emphasis on engagement, trust-building, and personal development.

A significant focus is placed on Physical Education, outdoor learning, and activity-based engagement, making this an especially exciting opportunity for individuals with a sports, coaching, or youth work background.

The Role Will Involve:
  • Supporting students with SEMH and associated additional needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Delivering and facilitating engaging Physical Education and outdoor learning sessions (Optional)
  • Building strong, positive and consistent relationships with students
  • Supporting behaviour regulation and emotional development strategies
  • Working flexibly both on-site and off-site (community-based learning)
  • Assisting in the delivery of individualized learning plans and timetables
  • Encouraging engagement, resilience, and re-integration into learning pathways
About You:
  • Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent manner
  • Ideally experienced in sports coaching, youth work, SEN, or behaviour support
  • Able to build trust and motivate disengaged learners
  • Flexible, resilient, and proactive in their approach
  • Hold a full UK driving licence (essential due to off-site learning)
Why This Role?
  • Highly rewarding work supporting some of the most vulnerable learners
  • Strong emphasis on sport, outdoor education, and practical learning
  • Opportunity to develop specialist SEMH experience
  • Growing provision with new sites opening and excellent progression pathways
  • Opportunity to increase hours if desired
  • Supportive leadership team and experienced consultants at GSL Education
