Engineering Manager
We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead its engineering function and drive improvements across manufacturing operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for improving productivity, labour efficiency, capacity, manufacturing flow and operational performance, while developing the engineering team and supporting future growth.
The Opportunity as Engineering ManagerWorking closely with Operations, Production, NPI, Supply Chain, Quality and Engineering, you will:
- Lead, coach and develop the engineering team.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across production.
- Improve productivity, labour utilisation, OEE, throughput and manufacturing efficiency.
- Establish labour standards, time studies and work measurement processes.
- Develop capacity models and support production and resource planning.
- Optimise factory layouts, material flow, workstations, tooling and assembly processes.
- Lead line balancing, takt time analysis, value stream mapping and standard work activities.
- Support NPI and ensure new products are introduced effectively into manufacture.
- Work with Design Engineering on DFM/DFA, DFMEA and PFMEA activities.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement and cost reduction.
- Develop business cases and lead capital investment projects for new equipment and manufacturing capability.
- Manage multiple engineering and improvement projects through to delivery.
- A degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
- Engineering leadership experience within a low-to-medium volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
- A background working with smaller mechanical or electromechanical products, assemblies or systems.
- Strong Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
- Knowledge of work measurement, labour standards, capacity planning and production processes.
- Experience improving production lines, assembly operations and manufacturing efficiency.
- Strong CAD/CAM capability, ideally Solid Works.
- Experience leading engineering teams and managing capital investment or improvement projects.
- Good understanding of OEE, productivity, labour efficiency and other manufacturing KPIs.
- Strong analytical, project management and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with in automotive/automotive supply, drive systems, robotics, hydraulics, tools, precision engineering, electric motors or similar mechanical/electromechanical manufacturing would be particularly relevant.
- Lean Six Sigma, automation, Industry-4.0 or digital manufacturing experience would be advantageous.
