This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Dermatology Nurse to join an innovative team at University Hospitals Dorset. A newly refurbished clinical department will open in August 2026 to facilitate a hub‑and‑spoke model of care for our patients.
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate nurse who has a proven track record of leadership and delivers exceptional standards of patient care. The post holder will be an expert practitioner responsible for clinical leadership, operational management and strategic development of the dermatology services, working closely alongside the senior leadership team.
The role is key to improving clinical outcomes and enhancing nurse‑led services, working toward an integrated approach to care.
Main duties of the job- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Dermatology Nursing team.
- Ensure a quality‑driven, responsive and equitable service.
- Lead the operational management of the dermatology service alongside lead consultants and service managers.
- Champion dermatology nursing within the wider nursing community and undertake relevant service development reviews.
- Balance leadership priorities with clinical activity.
University Hospitals Dorset are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. The dermatology service will become a hub‑and‑spoke service from August. If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute; other changes are managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
Detailedjob description and main responsibilities
- Demonstrable experience of leadership and independent working at a Band 7 clinical role for dermatology.
- Participation in research and experience of critical appraisal of the evidence base to inform practice.
- Managing standalone nurse‑led clinical activity.
- Application of advanced clinical skills into practice with a dermatology focus.
- Demonstrable theoretical and practical knowledge of common dermatological presentations.
- Experience of teaching, mentoring and developing staff.
- Patient education and empowerment.
- Experience of working at Band 7 level in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of dermatology skills.
- Advanced practice in dermatology nursing.
- Experience of teaching, mentoring and developing staff.
- Recognised teaching qualification.
