Summary

The 2-page Resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. We are seeking an Associate Chief of Staff – Primary Care to join our team in Poplar Bluff, MO. At the VA – your work will carry purpose as you provide care to Veterans while enjoying strong federal benefits and stability. Poplar Bluff is the gateway to the Ozarks, combining affordability with abundant outdoor recreation.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed below. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic

Requirements
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the VA for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
  • Residency training approved by the VA in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical ability to perform duties efficiently.
Additional Requirements
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine required.
  • Preferred experience:

    5 years VA experience – preferably in Primary Care and 3 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years VA experience and at least 3 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Computer proficiency with multiple software platforms.
  • Experience in patient care management, systems, and processes related to quality improvement.
  • Strong administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders.
  • Data collection and analysis expertise.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a multidisciplinary primary care team in Poplar Bluff, MO.
  • Provide administrative, programmatic, and clinical leadership for Primary Care under the direction of the Chief of Staff.
  • Drive clinical excellence and foster an environment of continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Oversee day-to-day administrative activities and ensure compliance with VISN-wide policies and procedures.
  • Perform hands‑on clinical work, oversight, and administration of all aspects of primary care.
  • Support efforts to recruit, train, and retain a high‑performing primary care workforce.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and resource management.
