This position will be located at 2155 N. Westwood Blvd., Poplar Bluff, MO with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Southeast Regional Office, Water Section.

Overview

The Clean Water Unit in the Southeast Regional Office strives to protect environmental quality in 25 counties in the Southeast Region by helping people and organizations use our natural resources responsibly to make a direct impact on Missouri’s Water Resources Quality. The position will perform technical work implementing the Missouri Laws and Regulations to evaluate and determine environmental compliance related to Clean Water.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections, investigations, and compliance assistance activities at wastewater facilities using knowledge of the laws and regulations to determine if facilities are operating in compliance.
  • Communicate by means of written reports, telephone, email, and other electronic means.
  • Implement policy and rules concerning wastewater facilities. Provide feedback to management and the Clean Water Unit to communicate how well policies are working based on field observations and suggest changes in their development.
  • Respond to other duties as assigned, including infrequent response to environmental emergencies.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
  • Decision Making:

  • Oral and Written Communication:

  • Attention to Detail:
    Thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Environmental Science:
    Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.
Experience and Education
  • A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline; preference toward environmental, chemistry, or geology degrees.
  • For Assistant:
    Bachelor’s degree and 0–2 years of relevant experience (substitutions may be allowed).
  • For Analyst:
    Bachelor’s degree and 2–4 years of relevant experience (substitutions may be allowed).
  • Use of post‑secondary education will not be the sole basis for denying consideration to any applicant.
