  • Department: Upholstery Shop
  • Shift Times: Start: 7:00am / End: 3:45pm

Summary: Sew canvas, cotton blends, leather, silks and other various blends of yardage per production schedule and supervisory instructions. Prepare and apply fabric/leather to various types of furniture per production schedule and supervisory instructions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilize commercial sewing machine, serger, scissors, seam rippers, pins, and air staple gun.
  • Apply welt cord and zippers.
  • Apply fabric and leather to panels, chairs, headboards, bunk rails and other furniture.
  • Develop new, and match up existing patterns as it applies to the project at hand.
  • Move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
  • Frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, ladder and stair climbing and occasional crawling, twisting, and lying.
  • Work effectively as a part of a team providing high quality customer service.
  • Maintain and participate in keeping personal work area, shop and tools clean and safe.
  • Must maintain an excellent attendance record following all company policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook and safety rules.
  • Expected to work overtime and flexible hours as needed to meet production schedules and departmental needs.
  • Possible travel to other facilities in Washington State.

Requirements:

  • Visual acuity capable of reading 1/8” on a ruler.
  • One year of professional sewing experience.
  • Basic math, reading and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal, written and pictorial instructions.
  • Function as a part of an effective team.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.

Safety Requirements:

  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including and not limited to gloves, safety glasses, hard hat and or a respirator may need to be worn when handling hazardous products or working in hazardous environments.
  • Maintain and participate in keeping personal work area, shop and tools clean and in proper working order to ensure safe working environment.
  • Hazardous materials are used in the production process. Employees must follow all safety guidelines and learn evacuation procedures, the location of first aid stations and SDS locations.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms, to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to push or pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is in and/or near a production floor setting and can be noisy and dusty. Noise levels are moderate to high with some chemical odors present.

Occasionally, work may be performed on a boat at dock.

Total Compensation: Wage range: $20.00– $26.00 per hour – depending on experience and demonstration of knowledge and technique. Benefits include:
