Primary Purpose

Provides technical assurance and guidance for the design, start‑up, and on‑going support on liquefaction and other renewable projects developed by Sempra Infrastructure. The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for technical guidance and expertise of low and medium voltage generation and distribution systems, ensuring designs and operations are safe, fit‑for‑purpose, and meet industry codes and project specifications. The engineer will monitor electrical systems and equipment, perform safety checks, and resolve technical issues.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Reviews EPC Contractor deliverables and makes recommendations to ensure the designs are safe, fit‑for‑purpose and meet industry codes and project specifications (including NFPA-70, NFPA 70‑E, NFPA 101 and API 500).
  • Participates in conceptual studies of the electrical systems to improve reliability, operability and safety during the Operate Phase.
  • Aids in the development of the electrical side of predictive maintenance planning for the rotating equipment kits and Turnaround Planning.
  • Creates Asset Management Plans for the electrical equipment for the facility Operating Lifecycle.
  • Acts as the Electrical Subject Matter Expert giving technical guidance for the Maintenance Team of PALNG post‑commissioning and startup.
  • Leads the development of vendor contractors for Asset Management of the electrical systems (switchyard, transformers, electric drivers) and manages the technical aspects with vendors during the Operate Phase of the project.
  • Assists with training of craft technicians and electricians as required.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews of EPC Contractor's deliverables, material/equipment selections, and inspects installations to ensure compliance with applicable acceptance criteria, codes, standards and successful start‑up and commissioning of PALNG.
  • Participates in project design meetings, reviews, and workshops including HAZOP reviews and ETAP model reviews.
  • Supports the development of electrical systems testing plans and procedures, drives improvement projects and MOCs, reviews test reports and conducts troubleshooting for site electrical equipment.
  • Provides SME support to resolve electrical design, installation, and interface issues that arise at the project site during startup and commissioning.
  • Travels to manufacturing facilities to inspect assembly of electrical equipment and attend factory testing, observes installation of electrical materials, equipment and systems at project sites, and performs Site Acceptance Test (SAT).
  • Supports process and operational efforts, including management of the site ETAP model during the Operate Phase.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required;
    Master’s degree in engineering is a plus.
  • Experience:

    8 years in petrochemical, Energy or LNG Industry with electrical systems (power distribution, switchgears, UPS, motors, VFDs preferred).
  • Knowledge: IEEE Standards and NEC required; must read and interpret CSA drawings, electrical drawings, P&IDs, plot plans, equipment general arrangements; implementation of Asset Management Plans for electrical equipment; understanding of standard electrical engineering systems, operating concepts, and documentation.
  • Skills:

    Experience commissioning, startup, operations and troubleshooting of electrical equipment during Operate Phase; awareness of electrical codes such as NFPA-70, NFPA 70‑E, NFPA 101, API 500; understanding of Sempra Infrastructure work practices, policies, procedures and application;
    Knowledge of managing electrical assets for facility Operating Life Cycle.
  • Other:
    Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) required; hazardous area classification competencies and ETAP Electrical system analysis modeling software.
