Field Construction Engineer, Piping
Our client is seeking a Field Construction Engineer, Piping to work within their facilities located in Port Arthur, TX, for an one-year assignment, with possible extensions.
Primary PurposeOversee the safe and environmentally compliant execution of piping installation and testing by EPC contractor at the project premises. Monitor the execution of work to ensure that progression is per the project specifications and industry standards and applicable codes. Report quality issues in a timely manner and help in resolving them with subject matter expertise. Foster harmonious relations with Construction, Commissioning, Turnover and Operations groups to deliver a qualitative product that maintains a world‑class LNG facility.
Assist in planning and develop tools to indicate progress and generate daily, weekly and monthly reports. Involve in eliminating errors in the first place and interact with craft professionals to obtain the best quality in a safe manner.
Provide input on project field engineering specialization roles and expertise on overseeing material management, quantity verification and validation. Offer technical inspection and testing knowledge and coordinate with contractors involved. Ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. This position will report to the Field Engineering Manager.
Duties And Responsibilities- Perform field observations, leadership and field walks, JSA reviews, attending toolbox meetings, and adhere to the project’s safety regulations.
- Ensure piping installation, cleanliness, testing & restoration are code compliant, adhering to the project specifications, applicable drawings, manufacturer recommendations, and industry standards.
- Maintain accountability on deliverables to the project within specific disciplines and monitor the progress of work, participate in punch list walkdowns.
- Develop a firm understanding of system scope from the beginning and prepare to walk the systems in the areas involved. Compile the drawings and specifications associated with each system well in advance.
- Oversee and manage contractor(s) construction activities to ensure compliance with the EPC contract, applicable permits, site regulations and construction safety program, and monitor the schedule compliance.
- Participate in system walkdowns, reporting punch items and clearing them through inspections.
- Interface and respond to technical queries from internal stakeholders, EPC contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other counter parties required.
- Ensure zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
- Participate in regular contractor construction meetings.
- Review contractor’s procedures, reports and quality of the product to ensure compliance and EPC contract requirements.
- Coordinate with the Commissioning and Start‑up Manager and engineers to facilitate start‑up of the project in accordance with operations agreed system turnover plan and plant performance testing and expectations.
- Manage compliance with proper and manufacturer‑required storage/preservation requirements.
- Ensure safe and secure heavy haul & heavy lift program for all transported equipment to and within the site.
- Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- 8+ years of experience managing major mechanical construction projects including LNG, Oil & Gas, and energy infrastructure projects.
- At least 5 years of background in management or construction of energy infrastructure projects required.
- At least 5 years of experience with brownfield projects preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of a single or multi‑discipline construction or engineering operation relating to field activities.
- Good working knowledge of piping, supports, valves and other related items for the gas industry.
