Shift: 2nd (5 PM – 3:30 AM, Monday–Thursday, 10 hours)
Job Description- Assemble pipe components by tacking them in place prior to welding.
- Confirm squareness and configuration of all joints fit‑up.
- Confirm pipe joints are aligned properly (taper bore if necessary).
- Confirm pipe spool is built according to the isometric drawings (center to center or center to end dimensions).
- Verify correct length, material, type, and grade of pipe and fittings prior to tacking.
- Retrieve material and ensure they correspond with parts list.
- Lifting pipe with crane to fit‑up bench.
- This job involves a variety of other tasks such as welding, cutting, grinding, measurement, and layout.
- Weld joints.
- Grind out temporary tacks.
- Position pieces to be welded.
- Purges pipe to be welded.
- Records filler rod heat numbers.
- Identifies his own welds by etching a weld number next to the joint.
- Inspects weld after and makes any corrections if needed.
- Keep work area clean and organized to prevent slips and trips.
- Conducts work safely and follows all safety procedures. Rejects work that is not safe and discusses the situation with supervisor.
Skills And Abilities
Required
- Minimum 5 years on‑the‑job welding experience.
- Ability to pass X‑ray and weld multiple processes.
- Ability to MIG root with downhill progression/flux core fill and cap with uphill progression (6″ diameter).
- TIG up‑hill progression on all passes.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percent, area, circumference, and volume using basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding for detailed instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
