Moran Towing Corporation () has an opportunity available for a Facility Assistant, for Moran Port Arthur. This is a full‑time, hourly, non‑exempt position reporting to the Assistant Port Engineer. This is an entry‑level position with growth opportunity into an engineering or operations role. Position

Summary

The Facility Assistant (FA) is an entry‑level position requiring outside work in the elements to maintain all aspects of the Moran yard as well as administrative work in the office on a computer. The FA interacts with all employees, vendors, and any other individual(s) who enter the Moran property. This position requires attendance on site every working day (no remote). The FA reports directly to the Port Engineer and periodically works with other Moran personnel.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Encourage and demonstrate safe work practices among all Moran employees.
  • Report and be ready to work on time every day.
  • Properly use Personal Protective Equipment when working.
  • Receive and approve supply orders, forward approved orders to vendor, source new vendors, receive quotes, identify parts and arrange for delivery while tracking requisitions and deliveries.
  • Take an active role in ensuring the building, yard and yard equipment, environmental drums, barge and ramp remain in operating condition, including inspections, repair and maintenance.
  • Review and enter coding into accounts payable application (COR).
  • Enter data into and ensure compliance with Moran Systems (such as Origami, Helm, OMS).
  • Actively take charge of deliveries and shipping via UPS, Fed Ex, and OTR Freight.
  • Read through the day’s incoming e‑mails and timely respond or forward.
  • After checking with the Port Engineer or Operating Unit Manager (OUM), timely prepare the shop and all other areas for significant weather conditions.
  • Anticipate freezing or severe weather to help maintain safety of people and property: apply salt to walkways and dock, secure objects, and relocate items in the yard for storm preparations.
  • Check the dock, fence line and shop building to ensure areas are maintained to reduce the possibility of trips, slips and falls. Promptly correct unsafe conditions such as fire hazards, oil leaks, etc.
  • Keep clean, neat, orderly and in operating condition all items on/in property including but not limited to the following:
  • Yard, buildings, dock, barge and components, ramp, fence, auto gate
  • Container and container area, including shaded work area, by properly storing supplies, equipment, tools, etc.
  • Paint locker, storage container and other areas, including the elimination of fire hazards.
  • Oily waste area. Drain filters and consolidate oily waste to minimize amount in oily waste disposal dumpster. Keep waste in the correct designated areas and report to the Port Engineer for this task.
  • Keep entrances clean of trash and debris.
  • Secure container area, shaded area and consumables upon leaving daily.
  • Secure non‑office buildings for night and/or weekend operation.
  • Replace lights and lamps to all fixtures to buildings, free standing lights as well as those on the barge as needed.
  • Pick up undeliverable or emergency orders via work truck to various locations such as Houston.
  • Help unload trucks for deliveries and assist with stores as needed.
  • Evaluate trash bins in office for removal to main dumpster during the week.
  • Maintain a neat office environment.
  • Arrange and schedule vendors as directed by the Port Engineer.
