In this role, you'll perform advanced technical work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of complex HVAC systems and their associated controls. From high‑efficiency heating and cooling units to smart building management systems, you’ll handle it all. You'll use a variety of computer programs and apply your deep knowledge in air and water test balancing, electronic and pneumatic controls, and digital diagnostics to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by vocational or technical training in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Five (5) years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair.
Licenses and/or Certificates
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain within six (6) months of position assignment:
    • Maintain HVAC Universal Certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Depending on position assignment… if assigned to work within the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office/Justice Center/Jail additional background checks will be required:
    • Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS).
    • FALCON Integrated Criminal History System.
What to Expect in This Role

This position requires knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, modern office practices, and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job‑related software. The role also demands strong technical knowledge of the air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing trades, including HVACR systems;
Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB); pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls; and complex systems such as chilled water plants, ice bank systems, multiple chiller types, and cooling towers. Successful candidates must have experience in electronic troubleshooting and the skill to use HVACR control software and standard office equipment. The position calls for effective written and verbal communication, strong organizational and prioritization skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.

Candidates must be able to work independently, operate a motor vehicle, safely perform duties around high voltage, high‑pressure gases, high temperatures, and high noise levels, provide quality customer assistance, prepare reports and technical documentation, and establish positive working relationships with staff, service providers, and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work requires some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.

RISK/SAFETY CONDITIONS

The position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, assault and battery, heavy equipment, communicable disease, etc.).
