The Supply Chain Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, components, and services required for manufacturing operations. This role ensures materials are available to support production schedules while maintaining optimal inventory levels, cost targets, quality standards, and supplier performance. The Buyer works closely with Production Planning, Engineering, Quality, Warehouse, and Suppliers to support on-time delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Purchase raw materials, electronic components, mechanical parts, consumables, and services required for business.
- Issue and manage Purchase Orders (POs) in ERP/MRP systems, maintain PO confirmations and updates.
- Monitor supplier delivery performance to ensure on-time delivery (OTD) and support production schedules.
- Review MRP requirements and take appropriate purchasing actions.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
- Expedite critical shortages and resolve supply chain issues.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, delivery schedules, invoices and order confirmations.
- Support supplier performance evaluations including KPI tracking such as OTD, OTIF, quality, and service level etc.
- Coordinate with Production Planning, Engineering, and Quality departments on material issues and engineering changes.
- Support sourcing activities including RFQs, supplier selection, and cost comparisons.
- Maintain accurate supplier and purchasing information/parameter in ERP systems.
- Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within supply chain operations.
- Integrate data into analytical reports, such as demand and supply planning, purchasing activities analysis, historical consumptions, inventory trends and supplier on time delivery etc. to support business outcomes and improvement opportunities
- Driving continuous improvement in supply chain workflows, improving working experience and reducing manual work.
- Support other teams of supply chain when needed.
- Other Ad-hoc duties as assigned.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Infor, or similar systems.
- Experience working with suppliers and managing delivery schedules.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing supply chain processes.
- Knowledge of MRP planning and inventory management principles.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills with the ability to interpret purchasing, inventory, and supplier performance data.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in electronics, aerospace, marine, or industrial manufacturing.
- Knowledge of customs, import/export procedures, shipping documentation, and international logistics is an asset.
- APICS/CPIM/SCMP certification is a plus.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement principles.
- Experience with KPI reporting and supplier scorecards.
- Office-based role within a manufacturing environment.
- Work in warehouse, shipping and production areas when needed, ability to lift 30 pounds.
- May require occasional overtime to support urgent production requirements.
- Ability to travel occasionally.
Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000 annually, DOE
Work Location:
Office located in Port Coquitlam, BC.
