Overview
The Network Planning Manager will lead the design, optimization, and implementation of Vodacom's radio access network (RAN) and core infrastructure in the Port Elizabeth region. Reporting to the Regional Director of Network Operations, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, construction, and regulatory affairs to ensure seamless rollout of new sites, capacity upgrades, and technology migrations. Your strategic insights will shape network performance, coverage, and quality of service, directly impacting customer satisfaction and market competitiveness.

- Develop and execute comprehensive network planning strategies aligned with corporate objectives and regional market demands.
- Lead feasibility studies, site acquisition, and radio frequency (RF) design for new cell sites and upgrades.
- Coordinate with the engineering team to perform drive-tests, coverage analysis, and performance optimization.
- Manage the end-to-end project lifecycle, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk mitigation.
- Ensure compliance with South African telecommunications regulations and spectrum licensing requirements.
- Collaborate with vendor partners to evaluate equipment specifications, technology roadmaps, and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior leadership.
- Mentor junior planners and foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Strong expertise in RF planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, or Mentum.
- Deep understanding of LTE, 5G , and emerging network technologies.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping, data analysis, and network performance metrics.
- Excellent project management abilities with a track record of delivering large-scale deployments on time and within budget.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Analytical mindset with problem‑solving capabilities in complex technical environments.
A Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as PMP, ITU-R, or vendor‑specific training (e.g., Nokia, Ericsson) are highly desirable.
ExperienceMinimum of five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network planning, with at least two years in a supervisory or lead role. Proven experience in managing 5G or LTE network rollouts in South Africa or comparable markets is essential.
