About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Chemical Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols and compliance across their operations in Port Elizabeth . This vital role ensures the highest standards of safety are maintained in all chemical handling, processing, and storage activities. You will be responsible for identifying potential hazards, developing mitigation strategies, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and hazard analyses (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA) for chemical processes and facilities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust safety management systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international safety and environmental regulations.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide expert advice and training on chemical safety, handling, and emergency response procedures.
- Oversee the implementation of safety equipment and infrastructure upgrades.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related safety-focused discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in chemical process safety, risk management, or HSE roles.
- In-depth knowledge of process safety standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP) and industry best practices.
- Experience with safety software and tools for risk modeling and incident analysis.
- Strong understanding of chemical properties, reaction hazards, and emergency preparedness.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
