About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Metallurgist to join their mineral processing plant operations near Port Elizabeth. This role focuses on optimizing the recovery of valuable minerals from ore through various metallurgical processes, including crushing, grinding, flotation, and leaching. You will be responsible for monitoring plant performance, troubleshooting operational issues, and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, yield, and product quality.
This is a hands-on role requiring a strong understanding of chemical and physical processes in mineral beneficiation.
- Monitor and control metallurgical processes to ensure optimal performance and mineral recovery rates.
- Conduct laboratory test work and pilot plant trials to evaluate new processes or improve existing ones.
- Analyze process data and troubleshoot operational problems to identify root causes and implement solutions.
- Develop and implement process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
- Ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations within the processing plant.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure plant reliability and efficiency.
- Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mineral processing, with hands-on experience in flotation and leaching.
- Strong understanding of metallurgical principles, chemical reactions, and physical separation processes.
- Proficiency in process monitoring and control systems, and data analysis.
- Experience with metallurgical accounting and reporting.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
