About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent Geotechnical Engineer to join their established mining operations near Port Elizabeth . This role is critical for assessing and managing the stability of mine excavations, slopes, and underground structures, ensuring the safety of personnel and the integrity of operations. You will conduct detailed site investigations, perform stability analyses, and provide expert recommendations to the mining and engineering teams.

This position offers the chance to apply advanced geotechnical principles within a demanding yet rewarding industry, contributing to the safe and sustainable extraction of resources in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site characterization and laboratory testing analysis.
  • Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes, underground excavations, and tailings storage facilities.
  • Develop geotechnical design parameters and recommendations for mine structures.
  • Monitor geotechnical conditions during mining operations and report on any changes or risks.
  • Provide technical guidance on ground support, dewatering, and other geotechnical aspects.
  • Collaborate with mine planners and operations personnel to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine design and execution.
  • Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on mining applications .
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC).
  • Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles.
  • Experience with ground monitoring techniques and instrumentation.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
