About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent Control Systems Engineer specializing in power generation to join their established team in Port Elizabeth . This role is crucial for the design, implementation, and maintenance of sophisticated control systems that ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power plants. You will work with state-of-the-art technologies, applying your expertise in automation, instrumentation, and control theory to optimize plant performance and meet stringent operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems and automation solutions for power generation facilities.
  • Configure, test, and commission Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Develop and maintain control logic, alarm management strategies, and human‑machine interfaces (HMI).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues during plant operation and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize plant performance and safety.
  • Ensure control systems adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and cybersecurity best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in designing and implementing control systems, with a significant focus on power generation or heavy industrial applications.
  • Proficiency with major DCS platforms (e.g., Siemens, Emerson, Honeywell) and PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, sensors, actuators, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus).
  • Experience with cybersecurity principles related to industrial control systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to work effectively in a plant environment.
