About the Role
Our client requires a diligent and experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer specializing in chemical energy processes for their facility in Port Elizabeth . This role is critical for ensuring the highest standards of safety in the design, operation, and maintenance of chemical energy production facilities. You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating process-related hazards, developing safety procedures, and fostering a strong safety culture.
This is an important position within a company committed to safe and sustainable energy production.
- Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA for chemical energy processes.
- Develop and implement comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Design and specify safety instrumented systems (SIS) and other safety-critical equipment.
- Investigate process safety incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide technical expertise and training on process safety principles to engineering and operations staff.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the chemical or energy sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
- Experience with risk assessment methodologies and safety system design.
- Strong understanding of chemical processes, hazardous materials, and industrial safety principles.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
