Application Security Specialist

Our client is seeking a dedicated Application Security Specialist to enhance the security of their software development lifecycle in Port Elizabeth . You will work closely with development teams to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities in applications, implement secure coding practices, and conduct security testing. This role is crucial for ensuring that all software products meet rigorous security standards before deployment.

You will play a key role in fostering a security-conscious development culture, helping to protect user data and the company's reputation by embedding security early and often in the development process, contributing to overall product integrity.

• Perform security code reviews and dynamic/static application security testing (DAST/SAST) to identify vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with software developers to remediate identified security flaws and provide guidance on secure coding practices.
• Develop and maintain security guidelines and standards for application development.
• Integrate security testing tools into the CI/CD pipeline.
• Stay current with common application vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and develop strategies to prevent them.
• Contribute to security awareness training for development teams.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; relevant security certifications (e.g., CSSLP, GIAC) are a plus.
• 3+ years of experience in application security or software development with a security focus.
• Strong understanding of web application security, common vulnerabilities, and remediation techniques.
• Experience with security testing tools (e.g., Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, Sonar Qube) and secure development life cycles.
• Familiarity with cloud security principles and container security.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, able to work effectively with development teams.
