Senior Computational Biologist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Computational Biologist to join their innovative research team in Port Elizabeth . This role is critical for analyzing and interpreting large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, to drive scientific discovery. You will develop and apply advanced computational tools and statistical methods to uncover novel biological insights, contributing to the understanding of complex diseases and the development of new therapeutic strategies.

The ideal candidate will possess strong programming skills and a deep understanding of biological systems.

• Develop and implement computational biology algorithms and pipelines for the analysis of high-throughput biological data.
• Perform statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning on omics datasets (e.g., RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, single-cell data).
• Collaborate with experimental scientists to design studies, interpret results, and generate actionable biological hypotheses.
• Curate, manage, and visualize large biological datasets to facilitate data exploration and discovery.
• Develop and maintain robust code and documentation for reproducibility and scalability.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of computational efforts within the research group in Port Elizabeth .

• Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in applying computational methods to biological problems.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl, and experience with relevant scientific libraries.
• Solid understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and systems biology concepts.
• Experience with Unix/Linux environments, scripting, and version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex findings to diverse audiences.
