At Port Hueneme, CA, SA‑TECH performs operational and intermediate‑level maintenance for aerial and seaborne assets in support of the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division’s Targets and Marine Operations Division.
We are currently hiring a qualified and experienced Engineering Technician III for on‑site work at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, CA to provide Seaborne Target O&M support across a broad range of technical areas, including HAZMAT, quality assurance, small vessel operator, mechanical, electrical, and electronics, in a marine environment.
Primary Duties- Under supervision, apply technical knowledge to task marine engines on seaborne target systems and subsystems (QST A/B/I, FACT, HSMST, SDST Targets).
- If required, train to qualify as a vessel operator for HSMST, QST A/B/I, FACT, and SDST Targets.
- Assist higher‑level technicians in building or replacing target components, marine engines, troubleshooting systems and subsystems, and repairing simple machinery equipment using tools and test equipment.
- Follow preventive maintenance programs using technical service manuals and schematic charts for marine engines and related equipment.
- Operate and be qualified in forklift operations, overhead crane operations, marine travel lift, and other target‑specific equipment.
- Maintain equipment logs, maintenance action forms, and work‑time tracking sheets.
- If required, qualify and maintain Portable Command and Control Unit (PCCU) Remote Control Operator (RCO) certification.
- Outdoor duties on shore and afloat on even or uneven surfaces, dry or wet.
- Seaborne environment with shift work at remote locations and multiple overnight assignments.
- Tasks involve sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and reaching.
- Capable of lifting 50–100 lbs. with assistance.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- 9/80 schedule (Mon–Thu 9 hrs, alternating Fridays with 8‑hr work and 8‑hr off).
- Overtime required.
- Travel required on a routine basis; work location normally NAWCWD Port Hueneme.
Education / Experience / Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent, plus technical school or specialized training (two‑to‑four years of comparable experience may replace education).
- Experience in a military environment (E4+ or on a military facility) is preferred.
- Basic understanding of Computer/Networking/MS Office.
- Works well with others as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of testing mechanical systems and components to ensure functionality per technical manuals.
- Correct and safe use of hand tools, power tools, engine and electronic test equipment.
- With supervision, ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and engineering data to determine repair methods.
- If required, train to qualify as a vessel operator for HSMST, QST A/B/I, FACT, and SDST Targets.
- Follow OSHA and Navy mandated safety guidelines.
- Minimum USCG 100‑Ton Credential (desired, not required).
