POLICE CADETGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Accept and prepare preliminary reports of criminal complaints and accidents of a minor nature. Perform specific patrol duties within assigned areas as a visible deterrent. Enforce City ordinances authorized by the Department. Perform related work as required or directed to.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Lieutenant, Sergeant or other superior officer.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
- Accept and prepare preliminary reports of criminal complaints and accidents of a minor nature.
- Perform specific, limited patrol duties.
- Ability to ride a bicycle for extended periods of time.
- Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in both cold and warm weather conditions.
- Ability to climb over obstacles.
- Ability to perform tasks that require lifting, carrying or dragging objects.
- Effectively communicate with people by listening, giving information, directions, etc.
- Obtain statements from victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Serve date and time sensitive subpoenas.
- Maintain log and accurately record all equipment being issued and returned.
- Monitor security cameras.
- Keep work area stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Verify bond money.
- Log-in persons arrested.
- Bond-out persons arrested.
- Prepare supplemental reports.
- Assist the on-duty command officers or other superior officers when requested.
- Confiscate, preserve and log into the property system evidence and found property.
- Perform parking enforcement, as well as beach, park and canal patrols; take enforcement action when deemed necessary.
- Effectively take necessary court documents to the District Court.
- Fingerprint citizens for court, firearms and employment purposes.
- Assist in Crossing Guard assignment(s) when needed.
- Assist with Traffic Control during special events.
- Answer phone calls/emails for C.A.P.T.U.R.E./Tip
411 anonymous tip lines, log anonymous tip information and disseminate to officers, which can be time sensitive. - Participate in the Drug Enforcement Agency National Prescription Drug Take Back Days, by taking and securing unwanted medicine(s) for destruction from citizens.
- Encouraged to participate in Community Oriented Policing Events; i.e. CAPTURE Spaghetti Dinner, Treats and Trucks, Halloween Stroll, Elementary/Youth Academies, etc.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Attending college, enrolled in law enforcement or related field.
- Maintain a 2.5 or better GPA.
- Good moral character with no major contacts with any law enforcement agency.
- Ability to communicate and interact with fellow employees, other agencies and various types of people.
- Ability to communicate verbally and effectively by listening to people and by giving information and direction.
- Ability to communicate effectively over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.
- Ability to accurately prepare written reports and forms.
- Legible handwriting and spelling skills.
- Ability to maintain a satisfactory work record.
