Position Summary:

Works collaboratively with Patient Care Services and/or House Supervisor on duty to assign patients to appropriate nursing units based on physician request, nature of illness and type of accommodations available and requested. Coordinates bed flow and placement while taking staffing into account to provide adequate patient care support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Acts independently; consistently exercises discretion and judgement in performing work which is predominantly intellectual and varied in nature.
• Exercises excellent communication skills with coworkers and outside resources.
• Exercises excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Works with Case Management and Utilization Review regarding potential admissions.
• Responsible to coordinate infection control when appropriate.
• Responsible to participate in daily bed control/throughput meeting(s).
• Participates in quality improvement and data collection activities.
• Safeguards and maintains confidentiality of all patients, medical staff, employees, and other information.
• Provides general clerical support such as greeting customers; promptly answering the phone; entering and retrieving data; assembling, maintaining, and distributing various types of information; maintains records, files, reports, and other documentation related to work.
• Maintains reports; routes reports and forms to appropriate departments/personnel, upon request and according to established procedures.
• Attends various departmental and hospital meetings as required.
• Acts as a professional role model.
• Provides appropriate placement for age-specific needs of the population served according to department standards, as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback.

  Birth to discharge from McLaren Port Huron
• Infant:
  Any child up to one year
• Pediatric:
  One year and older
• Adolescent: 13-17 years
• Adult: 18-64 years
• Geriatric: 65 years and older

Assists Patient Care Services and/or House Supervisor on duty in coordinating staffing across all areas to provide for safe patient care.

Required:



• Associate’s Degree (ADN) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program
• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license
• BLS and/or Canadian equivalent
  • Minimum two (2) years recent clinical experience

Preferred:

• Five (5) years recent clinical experience
