QUALIFICATIONS

Possess a current State of Michigan Master Electrician License preferred.

Possess demonstrated experience in electrical maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, installation, and general building maintenance, with proficiency in electrical systems.

Experience working with electrical systems commonly found in commercial, institutional, or educational facilities is strongly preferred.

Possess knowledge and experience with electrical distribution systems, including single- and three-phase electrical systems, circuit breakers, panels, disconnects, transformers, motors, controls, lighting systems, receptacles, and related equipment.

Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and systems using appropriate testing equipment, tools, wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer's service information.

Experience with building electrical systems including, but not limited to:

  • Interior and exterior lighting and lighting controls
  • Emergency and exit lighting
  • Electrical panels, breakers, disconnects, and distribution equipment
  • Motors, motor starters, contractors, and controls
  • Pumps and other electrically powered mechanical equipment
  • HVAC electrical controls and equipment
  • Building automation and control-related electrical systems
  • Fire alarm and other life-safety electrical systems
  • Generators, transfer equipment, and emergency power systems
  • Classroom, office, kitchen, athletic, and specialized school equipment

Knowledge of the Michigan Electrical Code, National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable safety requirements, and permitting and inspection requirements.

Ability to obtain required electrical permits and coordinate with electrical inspectors, contractors, utility providers, and other agencies as necessary. A Master Electrician license is preferred for these responsibilities. Michigan's master-level classification specifically includes obtaining permits and performing electrical work required by law.

Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and building plans.

Experience working safely in occupied buildings and educational facilities while minimizing disruption to students, staff, and school operations.

Possess, or be able to procure, a current CDL license with a “B” classification and have a good driving record.

High School graduate or equivalent (GED).

Capable of self-direction and efficient completion of assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

Ability to prioritize electrical maintenance requests and respond appropriately to emergency or time-sensitive electrical issues affecting school operations.

Ability to work cooperatively with maintenance personnel, administrators, teachers, support staff, contractors, inspectors, and members of the public.

Dependable and of good moral character.

Must pass a qualifying physical examination and background check.

Must be physically able to bend, stoop, climb ladders, reach, work in high places, work in confined or difficult-to-access areas, operate lifts and other equipment, and move heavy items and equipment. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

Responsible to the Director for Facilities and Operations or assigned supervisor.

Perform electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, alteration, and replacement work throughout School District buildings, grounds, and facilities.
