Co‑ordinates and maintains the Communicable Disease Control Program for Environmental Health Services within the Fraser Health Authority, including developing operating procedures and protocols, monitoring communicable disease trends and data integrity, coordinating the management of communicable disease outbreaks, identifying problem areas and staff training needs, and follow‑up of communicable disease concerns and issues. Acts as a resource person to all levels of staff in matters related to communicable disease control.
Acts as the primary liaison for Environmental Health Services with the Medical Health Officers, the Prevention Communicable Disease Control Practitioner, Hospital Infectious Control Practitioners, and the BC Centre for Disease Control on communicable disease control issues.
- Maintains the Communicable Disease Control Program through surveillance, data collection, analysis, reporting and documentation.
- Provides consultation and guidance to staff and others on clinical issues and approaches.
- Co‑ordinates response activities on communicable disease outbreaks.
- Participates in the reporting of communicable diseases with respect to recommendations for future control/avoidance measures.
- Develops operational guidelines and protocols on enteric disease follow‑ups and outbreak management.
- Participates in the Regional Communicable Disease Control Team and others with respect to issues such as the review and development of regional policies, procedures, protocols and practice standards.
- Provides supports and cross coverage for the Prevention Communicable Disease Control Practitioner.
- Identifies training needs of staff, develops orientation and training manual, implements and conducts orientation and training programs.
- Provides training to staff on the use and application of PHIS (Public Health Information System).
- Participates in the development, evaluation and implementation of Communicable Disease Control information systems.
- Participates in the development, evaluation and implementation of quality assurance standards for the program.
- Prepares statistical reports as needed and an annual report on the program.
- Maintains current knowledge on communicable disease issues and trends, both clinically and epidemiologically.
- Plans, develops, co‑ordinates and implements special studies, surveys and investigations.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health.
Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) granted by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI). Eligible for registration, with the BC Branch of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
