1:1 Student Support
When working in environments where de‑escalation, isolation, and restraint training is required, employees will be compensated at a rate of an additional $0.50 per hour (elementary) or $0.75 per hour (secondary).
The Office of Public Instruction is now requiring all para educators to provide a copy of their high school diploma and/or transcripts or GED to meet Title I, Part A federal law requirements. Please provide our office with a copy prior to being the selected candidate.
Purpose StatementThe job of Para educator – Social Communication (SC) is to support the instructional program within the assigned classroom with specific responsibility for supervising, caring for, and instructing special‑needs students in general education or self‑contained classrooms, assisting in implementing plans for instruction, monitoring student behavior during non‑classroom time, providing information to appropriate school personnel, and attending IEP meetings.
This role is distinguished by supporting students who need explicit instruction in social skills, pragmatics, visual and sensory strategies, modeling expected behavior and communication, self‑management techniques, and academic instruction at individual skill levels.
Essential Functions- Adapts classroom activities, materials, and assignments as needed to support classroom objectives.
- Assists students, teachers, and other staff in implementing instruction and IEPs.
- Attends meetings and trainings (first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, de‑escalation training, etc.).
- Develops instruction for students in individual and group activities to evaluate progress on IEP objectives.
- Implements behavioral plans for students with behavioral disorders under supervision.
- Maintains confidentiality following HIPAA, FERPA, and IEP guidelines.
- Maintains instructional materials and records.
- Monitors students to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Observes and collects data via data sheets to support progress of individual student goals and objectives.
- Provides clerical and general classroom assistance for staff (data entry, correspondence, copying, filing, organizing materials).
- Supervises and encourages students in school settings to support social communication skill growth.
- Works under both direct and indirect supervision using standardized routines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned, may be assigned to a student as a 1:1 para educator.
SKILLS:
