The Town of Port Royal is seeking a skilled and reliable Handyman/Carpenter to join our Public Works team. This position is responsible for performing a variety of carpentry, repair, and maintenance tasks on municipal buildings, facilities, and public infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong woodworking skills, a broad knowledge of general repairs, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general carpentry work, including constructing, repairing, and maintaining town buildings, parks, and other public facilities.
- Repair and replace doors, windows, flooring, cabinetry, and other structural components.
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on municipal structures and infrastructure.
- Assist in concrete work, fencing, drywall installation, painting, and basic plumbing or electrical repairs.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Respond to work orders and emergency repair requests in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used.
- Follow safety procedures and ensure compliance with town policies and regulations.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Trade school certification is a plus.
- Proven experience in carpentry, handyman services, or general maintenance work.
- Knowledge of construction methods, tools, and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
