This is a contractual temporary position not to exceed 12 months. This position is full time, 40 hours a week. After the applicable waiting period, the individual will be eligible for health benefits.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $21.22 - $24.40 depending on qualifications.
This position is considered an Essential Position for the purpose of Emergency Management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Port St Lucie emergencies, as determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials.This entry‑level position provides frontline customer service and clerical support for both Business Tax and Lien Services functions. The Specialist I assists with processing business tax receipts and basic lien‑related activities while ensuring compliance with City ordinances and Florida Statutes. Work is performed under close supervision and focuses on transactional accuracy, customer assistance, and record maintenance. This position facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

- Evaluate, recommend, and establish policies and procedures to continuously improve operations, decrease turn‑around times, and streamline processes to provide quality customer service.
- Provide customer service related to business tax receipts and municipal liens, including general inquiries, payment information, and application status.
- Assist with processing new, renewal, and transferred business tax receipt applications; verify completeness of submitted documentation.
- Collect and process payments for business taxes and lien payoffs; issue receipts and ensure accurate data entry.
- Assist with basic lien research, account updates, and payoff information as directed.
- Schedule and prepare routine documentation for Special Magistrate hearings, including modifications and vacates.
- Maintain electronic and paper records in accordance with records retention requirements.
- Access, input, and retrieve data from applicable systems including Munis and other departmental software.
- Support departmental reporting and assist with reconciliation of daily transactions.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. One (1) year of experience in clerical/customer service or related field required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES- Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and procedures.
