This position is essential and requires reporting to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
Responsibilities include:
- Proper operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities.
- Developing public trust in the City's Utility.
- Shift work, scheduled/unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and immediate response to emergencies.
Starting hourly rates:
- Plant Operator C: $25.31
- Plant Operator B: $26.58
- Plant Operator A: $27.91
The duties are illustrative and other related duties may be assigned. Essential duties include:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of water treatment, distribution, and supply operations.
- Understanding of bacteriology principles.
- Ability to follow instructions, read meters, and maintain records.
- Positive attitude, respectfulness, and ability to build trust.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with courses in biology and chemistry.
- Experience requirements vary by class: A (5 years), B (3 years), C (1 year).
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Class A, B, or C Water Treatment Plant Operator's License from the State of Florida.
- Valid Florida driver's license with a good record.
Physical requirements include working in confined spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and working in a noisy environment.
