Overview
Nemours is seeking a Lead Perinatal Sonographer, FULL-TIME, to join our team in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The Lead Perinatal Sonographer performs standard, specialty and complex obstetric diagnostic sonographic examinations and procedures with mastery, producing high-quality studies under a variety of conditions. They are responsible for operating and maintaining all ultrasound equipment, performing ultrasound studies related to high-risk obstetrical cases, and recording images in standard formats for physician diagnosis. The Lead Perinatal Sonographer leads perinatal sonography orientation, training/education, and provides feedback to management regarding performance evaluations.
The role requires ARDMS registration or registry eligibility with completion of registry within one year of employment. Participation in departmental and hospital Quality Assurance and improvement programs is expected, with identification of opportunities to enhance services and implementation of appropriate actions consistent with Nemours goals.
- Provides accurate room preparation and patient/family instructions according to the procedure; explains imaging procedures and offers patient education related to ultrasound procedures.
- Responsible for patient identification, image identification, PACS interaction, documentation, and operating the hospital computer system for data entry, order entry, and completion of the study.
- Obtains, reviews, and integrates pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
- Performs high-quality and comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound imaging examinations in accordance with established department guidelines and protocols under the supervision of the MFM Physician(s).
- Performs or assists other staff in obtaining appropriate images and assists with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Prepares examination reports and communicates clinical information and ultrasound findings effectively to the interpreting physician.
- Exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of diagnostic exams.
- Works collaboratively with others as a team member; demonstrates the ability to work independently and engage in critical thinking to improve the quality of care.
- Maintains work habits aligned with hospital and department policies; reports unsafe conditions and incidents to the supervisor; ensures proper function and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintains strong communication skills, accepts feedback, asks questions, and actively communicates with counterparts and all departments.
- Communicates scheduling delays to patients, staff, and families.
- Ensures all emergency equipment and supplies are available and operational; familiar with procedures for equipment failure.
- Schedules procedures/patients, handles check-in procedures, and is familiar with downtime procedures and reporting/troubleshooting equipment failure.
- Cleans and restocks Diagnostic Imaging as needed and manages inventory.
- Aids in training of new personnel, students, and physicians.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Some College required.
- Specialized training (Completion of approved Ultrasound Program required beyond high school).
- BSN preferred.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN).
- Fetal Echo Certification required.
- AHA BLS Certification required.
- Nuchal Translucency Certification preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience required.
- Florida State Radiation License is required if ARRT certified.
