ResponsibilitiesThe Prospect Research Analyst serves as a data and operational specialist on the Prospect Development team. Rather than focusing on traditional individual prospect research, this role concentrates on the data infrastructure and analytical capabilities that drive effective prospect identification and portfolio management at scale — operationalizing vendor models and scores, ensuring data integrity, designing reporting and visualization products, automating manual workflows, and contributing to the design and responsible deployment of AI tools.
Working primarily within a Salesforce-based fundraising CRM, the analyst partners with gift officers, prospect development colleagues, advancement services, and leadership to translate complex data into actionable intelligence. The role suits a practitioner who is fluent in fundraising data and analytical methods and who is energized by improving how a development operation uses its data.
- Support prospect identification efforts through data-driven segmentation, screening, and lead generation that feed qualification and portfolio assignment.
- Collaborate with prospect development colleagues to ensure analytical and modeling work strengthens the identification-to-qualification pipeline.
- Monitor, assess, and improve the quality, consistency, and completeness of prospect and constituent data, identifying issues and leading or contributing to remediation efforts.
- Develop and document business rules, data standards, and quality-control processes that support reliable analysis and reporting.
- Conduct large-scale analysis of constituent, giving, engagement, and external data to surface patterns, segments, and opportunities that inform fundraising and portfolio management strategy.
- Operationalize vendor-provided models and scores (wealth, capacity, propensity, affinity) by integrating them into the CRM, validating their performance, and translating outputs into usable guidance for the front line.
- Support the development, testing, and refinement of internally built predictive and descriptive models in partnership with team and division colleagues.
- Design and develop functional requirements for reports and other BI products that make analytical insight accessible to gift officers, managers, and leadership.
- Translate stakeholder questions into clear analytical requirements and deliver reporting that supports portfolio management, pipeline analysis, and performance measurement.
- Identify manual, repetitive, or error-prone processes across the prospect development workflow and assist in the design of automated solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Participate in the design, requirements gathering, and validation of AI-enabled products and tools, contributing data and domain expertise to ensure solutions are accurate, useful, and fit for purpose.
- Apply AI and automation approaches to streamline research and data workflows, and help evaluate outputs for reliability and alignment with professional and ethical standards.
