This position is considered an "Essential Position" for the purpose of Emergency Management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Port St Lucie emergencies, as determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials.
Technical and manual labor position operating, inspecting, maintaining and repairing all types of utility equipment and appurtenances pertaining to water treatment facilities. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

- Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Performs basic preventive and corrective maintenance by troubleshooting problems, making repairs, checking for proper operation and communicating with other divisions.
- Lubricates, adjusts, and maintains shop, field, and plant equipment, including inspection, cleaning and repairing wells, pipes, pumps, compressors, valves, chemical feed, and processing equipment.
- Maintains, installs, inspects, and repairs piping systems of galvanized, PVC, stainless steels, and copper tubing; identifies types of piping, fittings, and basic valves; cuts and threads pipe; and makes minor modifications to existing piping systems.
- Installs, inspects, and repairs a variety of pumps and drives; removes and installs electric motors; removes and installs packing and most seals.
- Performs basic to routine maintenance and repairs to engines, such as oil changes, belts; replaces filters and takes hydrometer readings of coolant and battery fluids.
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Uses of aerial lift operation (cranes, boom lifts, bucket trucks) equipment.
- Follows proper safety practices, precautions, and procedures, such as confined space entry, storing, handling, and transporting hazardous chemicals. Follows proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures.
- Follows the safe and proper use of various hand, power tools and test instruments.
- Utilizes basic welding skills to plan and perform simple fabrication projects; cuts, heats, solders and welds various materials.
- Maintains accurate records; performs computer data entry; purchases materials and supplies.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by specialized mechanical training required. One (1) year of experience with basic welding, fabricating, and aerial lift operation (cranes, boom lifts, bucket trucks) equipment is required. Two (2) years of experience in the Utility preventative maintenance division preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS- Possession of valid driver's license and maintenance of clean driving record required with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days from date of hire.
- Possession of valid Class B Florida driver’s license and maintenance of clean driving record required.
- Thorough knowledge of standard electrical and mechanical tools and test equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Skills to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Proven mechanical ability as it relates to utility pumps, motors, and other appurtenances; proper use of tools and testing equipment, read and use charts and blueprints.
