PositionThe part-time Adult Softball Officials I & II are responsible for officiating scheduled softball games and programs sponsored or coordinated by the Parks & Recreation Department. A high level of independent judgment is necessary to be an Official. Officials are under the direction of the assigned Leader/Supervisor. All employees are responsible to the City Manager. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
PayThe pay rates for Softball Officials I & II are as follows:
- Adult Softball Official I - $17 per game
- Adult Softball Official II - $25 per game
The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Parks & Recreation Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Officiates Adult Softball games/tournaments in compliance with the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA).
- Establishes and maintains an effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationship with participants including coaches, players, supervisors, and other employees of the Parks & Recreation Department.
- Maintains accurate time sheets and turns them into designated supervisor.
- Other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skill and/or Ability Required- Ability to learn and follow City policies and regulations.
- Ability to appear on time for all scheduled games and notify appropriate individuals in advance if unable to work.
- Ability to see play with sufficient clarity to make accurate decisions.
- Ability to repeatedly and quickly traverse the court to monitor play.
- Ability to work at least three (3) games in succession.
- Ability to deal with stressful situations.
- Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
- Ability to stay centered when challenged.
- Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to follow through with assigned tasks.
- Knowledge of sport rules is required. Prior experience in officiating softball games is preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Completion of a Softball competency exam is required.
- Softball Official Certification/Registration through FHSAA, or a minimum of 2 years of experience officiating sanctioned (USSSA or ASA) leagues and/or tournaments required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noises, moving participants and the public. The employee works indoor at a city owned field.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
