The Role We currently have an opportunity for two Electrical / Automation Engineers to join our plant in Port Talbot, with one position within the Asset Improvement Team and one within the Electrical Maintenance Team.

Reporting to either the Section Engineer
- Asset Improvement or Section Engineer
- Electrical, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety of production-critical crane assets across the Port Talbot site. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will provide specialist electrical and automation expertise to support the ongoing operation, maintenance and improvement of a diverse range of crane systems and associated equipment.

The successful candidates will be responsible for analysing asset performance, identifying reliability improvement opportunities, supporting root cause failure investigations, and delivering engineering solutions that reduce risk, improve operational performance and extend asset life. The roles will work closely with maintenance, planning, operations and project teams to ensure engineering improvements are effectively implemented and deliver measurable business benefits.

The Asset Improvement role will focus on long-term reliability, lifecycle management, asset strategy development and capital improvement projects, while the Maintenance role will focus on supporting operational maintenance activities, fault elimination, equipment performance and sustaining safe, reliable operations.

Responsibilities with this position will include but not be limited to:

Asset Reliability & Engineering Support Reporting to either the Section Engineer
- Asset Improvement or Section Engineer
- Electrical, support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of production-critical crane assets across the Port Talbot site.

Analyse asset performance, maintenance history, and condition monitoring data to identify improvement opportunities.

Support root cause investigations into significant failures and recurring defects, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.

Develop engineering solutions to improve asset reliability, availability, maintainability and lifecycle performance.

Support refurbishment, modernisation and life-extension programmes for crane electrical and automation systems.

Provide technical support for equipment failures, maintenance activities and operational issues.

Electrical & Automation Systems Provide specialist support for crane electrical systems, motors, variable speed drives, instrumentation, PLCs and control systems.

Support fault finding, diagnostics and performance optimisation activities.

Contribute to maintenance strategy development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Support control system modifications, software changes and equipment upgrades through the Management of Change process.

Governance, Projects & Continuous Improvement Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, engineering standards and safe working procedures.

Develop and review technical documentation, specifications, risk assessments and engineering reports.

Support the delivery of SRE and CAPEX projects from concept through to commissioning.

Provide technical expertise and guidance during the specification, procurement, installation and commissioning of new crane assets and major asset improvement projects, ensuring alignment with safety, reliability and operational requirements.

Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, planning and contractor teams to achieve business objectives.

Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, productivity, energy efficiency and cost performance

The Candidate Some of the key attributes we are looking for in applicants include:

HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline, ideally supported by a recognised apprenticeship.

Proven technical knowledge within a heavy industrial, manufacturing or process industry environment.

Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, variable speed drives, instrumentation and control systems.

Experience of PLC-based control systems such as Siemens, Rockwell, ABB or similar platforms.

Experience with crane electrical systems, lifting equipment and associated automation systems would be advantageous.

Experience in reliability improvement techniques such as RCA, RCM, FMEA and condition monitoring.

Working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, Electricity at Work Regulations, Permit-to-Work systems and safe systems of work.

Experience delivering engineering improvements, reliability projects, equipment upgrades or CAPEX projects.
