Mechanical Engineer

Location: Port Talbot

Salary: £48,000-£51,000 per year (inclusive of shift premium)

Job Type: Permanent | Full-time

Rhino Recruitment is working with a leading manufacturing company in the Port Talbot area. We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer seeking long-term career progression and job stability within a well-established organisation.

Requirements / Qualifications
  • Time-served mechanical apprenticeship (essential)
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (desirable)
  • Counterbalance forklift licence (advantageous but not essential)
Experience
  • Experience in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment
  • Previous experience in a BRC Certified workplace (desirable)
  • Experience with machining and welding (desirable)
  • Strong background in reactive and preventative maintenance
  • Proven ability to diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs
Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with schedules
  • Respond efficiently to mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime
  • Diagnose and repair faults on production equipment and machinery
  • Ensure all maintenance and repairs are documented accurately
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering and production teams
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency
Skills & Attributes Required
  • Hands‑on approach with a strong technical background
  • Self‑motivated with excellent problem‑solving skills
  • Strong organisational and workload management abilities
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to interact at all levels
  • Attention to detail and ability to work methodically under pressure
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Computer literate with experience using maintenance management systems (desirable)
