Maritime Program Coordinator – Northwest Maritime
Base Pay Range$28.00/hr – $30.00/hr
Job DescriptionHelp foster transformational maritime experiences for local youth on the Salish Sea under the Blue Schools Initiative. The role supports the Maritime Career Prep Programs—Port Townsend Maritime Academy, Maritime Career Immersion, and High School Sailing Team—by delivering high‑quality program content and building effective relationships with community and school partners.
Primary Responsibilities- Plan annual Maritime Career Prep Program calendar and schedule fleet & facility use
- Provide direct instruction on the water, including sailing, powerboat operations, and small boat handling
- Direct instruction of Maritime Career Immersion cohorts using trauma‑informed practices with youth furthest from opportunity
- Follow best practices and support NWM’s Antiracism & Inclusion statement
- Assess, improve, and design Career Prep Programs to align with the Blue Schools framework
- Collaborate with Program division to implement program evaluation using data collection, logic models, and annual performance goals
- Follow risk management protocols and work with Programs Team to improve them
- Facilitate program registration paperwork & database management in collaboration with Registrar
- Support and train Career Prep Volunteers with Program Managers
- Work with School Programs Manager to stay within budget & timeline
- Expand the marketplace for Maritime Career Prep Programs through regional outreach to industry partners, schools, teachers, communities, and program partners
- Collaborate with Communications to promote education programs via marketing materials and website updates
- Contribute expertise as a Blue Schools team member to ensure program and content alignment
- Other duties as assigned
While the primary focus is coordinating maritime learning for youth, the coordinator works as part of the entire NWM team, ensuring smooth operations—including participation in all‑hands projects, assisting visitors, and occasional heavy lifting.
Minimum Qualifications- USCG 25 Ton Master’s License or higher
- Sailing experience
- Experience working with youth and delivering effective programs
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage collaborators, parents, and teachers
- Teaching experience, including experiential education and trauma‑informed practices
- Experience coordinating programs, including scheduling, logistics, and gear management
- Initiative, problem‑solving, and adaptability in dynamic situations
- Enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry gear up to 50 lbs
- Current First Aid/CPR and Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine Auto‑Injector certifications (or plan to obtain)
- Valid driver’s license
- Professionalism, punctuality, and a positive attitude
- Strong understanding of risk management principles
- Connections or willingness to engage with the local maritime community
- Experience working with youth who are distanced from opportunity (e.g., experiencing homelessness, court involvement)
- Boat maintenance and/or marine trades experience
Work offers are contingent on a satisfactory pre‑employment background check and drug test. The NWM boat‑based programs are drug, alcohol, and tobacco‑free. Certain employees will be enrolled in a random drug testing program administered by the Maritime Consortium, in compliance with Coast Guard regulations.

- $28–$30 per hour, non‑exempt
