Director of Environmental Health & Water Quality
Location: 615 Sheridan, Port Townsend, WA
Employment Status:
Full-Time, 40 hrs./week, in office position.
Compensation:
Exempt, Manager 19: $7,642.31-$9,125.31;
Full medical benefits, including dental and vision. Retirement provided through Washington State DRS. Plus 11 paid holidays, PTO, and bereavement leave.
Environmental Public Health Manager
The Environmental Public Health Manager supports the Director of Environmental Health & Water Quality in the following key areas:
- Administration
- Budgeting, contracts, and grant management
- Database management and implementation
The Environmental Health Division oversees many critical functions including septic system permitting, food service permitting and safety, code enforcement, septic system operation and maintenance, drinking water, water recreation facilities, solid waste facilities, and pollution prevention.
A key aspect of this job is ensuring our business operations are smooth and effective, that we meet public expectations by processing permit applications in a timely manner, and that we interpret and enforce codes consistently.
What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a self-motivated team player who understands the value of collaboration and Lean Thinking. We are looking for someone who is comfortable, not an expert, navigating the front-end and back-end of databases, and is willing to learn more about databases.
A Day in the Life as Environmental Public Health Manager
The Environmental Public Health Manager plays a critical role in ensuring our programs run smoothly. You might start your day by assisting the front desk staff with an invoice that isn’t printing properly, followed by a team meeting in any one of our subject areas (food safety, onsite septic systems, solid waste facilities, etc.) where we collaborate on how to best resolve an identified problem.
In the afternoon, you might meet with our prosecuting attorney’s office to discuss an enforcement case, or meet with the State Department of Health and other local health jurisdictions on an emerging issue.
