Jefferson County is accepting applications for an Appraiser Trainee or Residential Appraiser, depending on previous experience in the appraisal field. Work assignments are oriented toward straight‑forward real property appraisals.
Appraiser Trainees(if not accredited) will assist or otherwise support the work of Residential Appraisers in determining fair and accurate values upon which property taxes will be assessed. Work results are reviewed for accuracy, completeness and compliance with policies and regulations. Must become an accredited Washington State Appraiser by passing the State Accreditation Examination or passage of IAAO Course 101 within (1) year of employment.
Residential Appraisersperform appraisals of real property to establish a fair and accurate value upon which property taxes will be assessed. Must have one year of experience in the appraisal of real property and qualify to be an accredited or licensed appraiser.
Minimum QualificationsIndividual needs to be able to perform this job successfully in each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are listed on the job description, please see attached, and are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education and/or ExperienceRequires an Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two‑year college or technical school in programs with an emphasis in business, construction or allied field; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid Washington Driver’s License.
CompensationThis is a full time, 40 hours a week, UFCW position. Full medical benefits, including dental and vision. Retirement provided through Washington State DRS. Plus PTO, 3 floater days, 11 paid holidays, and bereavement leave. Work Week:
Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with a 1‑hour lunch or 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with a ½‑hour lunch.
This is a Grade 25 Position. Pay range is $25.70-$30.68/hour in 2025, starting pay typically $25.70, DOE. The Appraiser Trainee is the first level on the career ladder for appraisers. Advancement to the next higher‑level position within the career ladder requires the completion of the requirements for each level and a positive recommendation from the Assessor.
Residential AppraiserThis is a Grade 28 Position. Pay range is $28.71-$34.28/hour in 2025, starting pay typically $28.71, DOE. The Residential Appraiser is the second level on the career ladder for appraisers. Advancement to the next higher‑level position within the career ladder requires the completion of the requirements for each level and a positive recommendation from the Assessor.
